The Soaring Hawks After School Program takes place at Hanawalt Elementary School and is led by Hanawalt teachers, parents, and community partners. Please see all the club offerings below. Please limit enrollment to one or two clubs.
All About Me Club: (Grades K-2 ONLY) All About Me Club will talk about what makes us special, our family, and things we enjoy. We will create art around topics about YOU.
Art Club K-2: (Grades K-2 ONLY) Art Club is led by artist Phyllis Heinle and will immerse students in various art exploration activities, including painting and crafts.
Art Club 3-5: (Grades 3-5 ONLY) Art Club is a student-centered artistic exploration time. Ms. Sheeley will facilitate some projects, as well as let students brainstorm, problem solve, and plan artwork based on their specific interests.
Basketball Club: (Grades 1-5 ONLY) Basketball Club will provide basic instruction, fundamentals of the sport, teamwork and scrimmages. The kids will learn how to play together and the basic rules of the game.
Bounce to the Beat Club: (Grades 2nd-5th ONLY) Bounce to the Beat will teach coordination and rhythm through various dribbling routines paired with pop music.
Buddies Club 4-5: (Grades 4-5 ONLY) Buddies Club will pair kindergarten and 1st grade students with 4th and 5th grade students to help introduce them to Hanawalt by playing games, reading, and doing other fun activities together.

Cheer Club 1-3: (Grades 1-3 ONLY) Cheer Club will teach the basics of cheer including motions, jumps, and simple stunts. Students will gain leadership and teamworking skills through supporting one another and learn cheers to promote Hanawalt Pride!

Choir Club: (Grades 3-5 ONLY) Choir Club will give kids the opportunity to grow their singing and musical skills along with their friends.
Coding Club: (Grades 2-4 ONLY) Coding Club is a fun and interactive way to introduce students to coding basics through the use of code.org with drag and drop block(ly) and Shapiro Indi cars.
Diamond Art Club: (Grades 3-5 ONLY) Diamond Art Club gives detail-oriented kids the opportunity to create various diamond art projects.
Explorers Club K-2: (Grades K-2 ONLY) Explorers Club will explore areas like conservation, wilderness survival, emergency preparedness, first aid, health, nutrition and citizenship. Discover the fun!

Harry Potter Club: (Grades 3-5 ONLY) Harry Potter Club will allow students to play games, make crafts and celebrate all things Harry Potter.
Karate Club: (Grades K-5) Karate Club, facilitated by Dojo's Family Martial Arts, will help kids build their confidence and self-control, boost physical and mental wellness, and learn how to identify and prevent bullying behavior.
Math and Movement Club: (Grades K-2 ONLY) Math and Movement Club is fun and educational! Students will combine their favorite PE games with basic math skills.
Soccer Club: (Grades 1-3 ONLY) Soccer Club, led by Des Moines Soccer Club, will provide basic soccer instruction and scrimmages, offering kids a way to stay active and build bonds with their peers while learning soccer skills.
STEM Exploration: (Grades 3-5 ONLY) STEM Exploration Club engages students in hands-on projects, using math, science, and technology to solve a problem and create a solution.
Theatre Club: (Grades K-2 ONLY) Theatre Club, led by the Des Moines Playhouse, will dive into the world of puppetry! Learn the basics of puppet construction, manipulation, and storytelling to encourage creativity and collaborative storytelling.
